I need to attempt data recovery on an external hard drive... anyone recommend some place local that's affordable and legit?

Jason is the drive spinning? Is it SATA or IDE? if its a new SSD drive they are tough. I have been in the computer industry for over 20 years. Sometimes I have found that you can replace the circuit board with the exact same model and it comes back to life. You say its an external, you may be able to just pop it out of the enclosure and and get the data back as well. There is a place that I use in Southfield that can get your data. Its not cheap however. Data Recovery Group, 248-357-3282 is their number.
Looking for a company to repair a clicking Hard Drive. Any suggestions?? Preferably near the heights. Thanks!

Do you have a few thousand dollars to pay a [data recovery company](http://www.datarecoverygroup.com/) with "a clean room" to transfer your drive's platters to a functioning drive? If not, and you can back up your data, then do so immediately and get yourself a new hard drive.
