Any recommendations on a mechanic? Hey Pearlanders, do you guys have any recommendations for a good mechanic? I was charged $93 to have my check engine code read last week. I can read it myself, but since it was already in the shop I just had them do it. I had no idea they would charge me for it (let alone $93). I asked why it was so expensive; direct quote - "it requires specialized equipment and specialized knowledge". I plugged in my $20 check engine light reader from Amazon and received the same code.
All of that to say I'm in the market for a new mechanic. Any ideas? Also, are other shops charging to read the check engine light? I had never experienced this until last week. Normally, it's just a common courtesy. (Of course, I did move in from a smaller city).
