  Hey there! I stayed at Backpackers BCN (www.backpackersbcn.com) for about two weeks last year while searching for an apartment in Barcelona and quite liked it. It's pretty central, was among the cheaper hostels, the staff was really helpful and it was easy to get to know other people. The metro is nearby and you're just outside the touristy area. Just keep in mind that in July you'll have loads of young and drunk people flocking to the hostels in Barcelona. But I guess you'd have to book an actual hotel to avoid them.
