I am a self taught tie dye artist living and creating at the Jersey Shore. Dragon River Dyes' name is derived from the local legend of the Jersey Devil. The Jersey Devil is a cryptid with the head of a goat, horns, large bat - like wings, and a forked tail. It is said to inhabit the Pine Barrens of New Jersey, a less developed area west of the shore where jagged pitch pines and tall atlantic cedars line blood-red cranberry bogs. Swedish explorers called the Pine Barrens "Drake Kill" which roughly translates to "Dragon River". I have yet to see this legendary creature for myself, but have enjoyed hiking the sandy trails and paddling the muddy red waters in its search. This exploration in nature and fascination with the strange serve as inspiration for my designs.
