Stone & Sprocket was originally created for parents to come to a page where they can be supported in learning about the value of free play using nature and loose parts.
My name is Rebecca Thompson and I worked in early childhood, early intervention, primary schools and adult learning environments for 20 years. I am committed to supporting educators and the community to provide high quality care and education for every child.
The combination of this experience and a keen interest in the rights of the child has motivated me share my understanding how we view children and their behaviour through the use of perspectives such as; nature pedagogy & loose parts theory. These lenses align with my personal philosophy regarding the child's right to be themselves and follow their urges in play without being constricted by adult agenda.
This page has evolved in to a combination of parent support to reconnect with nature and early childhood educator support to rethink the image of the child and to consider the environment as the adaptation rather than the child as deficit.
