Everything seemed fine with the outlet afterward ... both a curling iron and lower wattage blow dryer worked just fine. Plugged in and turned on the new high wattage blow dryer this morning and it set off the nearby fire/smoke detector. Doesn't smell like anything is burning, and the circuit panel is intact, no circuits tripped, but clearly something fried within the GFI electrical outlet. Who has a recommendation for an electrician who can handle this type of diagnostic and repair? Appreciate your recommendations for someone reliable and reasonably priced. Thanks!
