Which transmission shop in town would you guys recommend? My family used to go to Slaven's, he was great, but idk if he's still there.

Sounds like a service is a good start, have them replace the transmission filter and as a routine maintenance replace the shift solenids since your already down there.
Dirty, old transmission oil will cause bad shift and or the shift solenoid internal coil wears down in time.
* Make sure it's a full flush, some places just drain the oil in the pan but never flush the lines, so they leave around 2-3 Qts of dirty oil still in there and it just recontaminates the new oil. Very very important lol...
A good scan can read the TCS module and can see if there's any shift solenid A or B codes are present.
If your vehicle has over 100,000 miles it's always a good idea to add a bottle of Lucas transmission oil, it helps restore your transmission, worn bushings or seals and helps maintain a longer life span.
