Hello, Today I am sharing an event that took place yesterday on my father’s birthday. First, I would like to state that this message is not to bad mouth the vet clinic, but to express my frustration, disgust, and plea for this not to happen in the future. My parents had a small poodle that recently became intermittently ill. All that was done was blood work, a few other inconclusive tests, antibiotics, fluids, and steroids. This lack of any additional tests such as x-rays, MRIs, and cat scans might have been able to give more information on whether his condition was treatable. Instead all that was said was that sorry that treatment didn’t work and nothing more. The most heartbreaking thing was what happened when my father decided to end the suffering with the facts presented to him. After the dog was euthanized, the dog was brought out to him wrapped in just a blanket, without a cardboard coffin box, to drive home with. My father, already upset by having to put his dog down, was devastated to have to drive home holding his dog because he was afraid of him shifting and moving since the dog was just covered in a blanket. I have not encountered any vet clinics that are so strapped for money that they could not afford the cardboard box coffins. They are available to the public with no discount for $75.00 for 12. It may seem outrageous for me to complain about this, but I think most people would agree that most would even pay the cost just to have it available. However, after my dad buried his dog, he wanted to go to the bank buy $1000 worth of burial boxes so it would not happen to someone else, even though this should be a responsibility of the clinics for which we pay for services. I would hope that an apology will be provided for the lack of sympathy and supplies that should be a common courteous during a time like this.
