About us
Equine Sports Massage. Human Sports Massage. Saddle Fitting. Experienced, fully qualified and insured therapist. Equine sports massage (soft tissue therapy) is the therapeutic application of professional sports massage techniques to the horse. A thorough understanding of anatomy and the interaction of bones, joints and muscles are the basis of the proven physical and mental therapy that is the art of massage.
A massage therapist has a holistic view of the horse and will try to consider all possible causes and effects of any tension while reading a horse's responses.
Do you notice any of the following in your horse? :
•Dislikes being groomed •Preferring one rein •Showing lateral stiffness •Reluctance to canter on one lead •Hollow-backed •Holds its head high •Head-shaking •Bucking •Cold-backed when tacked up •Lack of poll flexion and bend •Head tilting •Having an uneven stride length •Holding the tail to one side •Excessive rolling
All of the above can be signs of pain and discomfort and should be investigated.
Most human athletes understand the importance of preparing their bodies for competition and the horse should be no different.
With my training and experience as both an equine and human sports massage therapist, I understand the importance of a correctly fitting saddle.
Our horses are precious to us so, at the very least, the saddle should be a good fit for the horse and be regularly checked as the horse’s weight and levels of fitness fluctuate.
However, if a saddle that fits the horse does not also fit the rider, even the most experienced of riders will find it difficult to maintain good posture and balance thus increasing the risk of discomfort, pain or injury to the horse, rider or both.
All too often I have helped to treat some of the damage caused to the horse and/or rider by an ill-fitting saddle and I am passionate in my quest to help prevent this occurring in the first place. This passion led me to train with The Saddle Company to become one... show more
of their recommended saddle fitters.
As a saddle fitter, what do I like about The Saddle Company products? The list is long, but these are the three most important to me: 1. They use synthetic (Treetec) trees because they offer a precise and balanced tree, which has no imperfections. 2. The Tree moulds are designed on a cad system so are completely symmetrical and balanced. The trees all carry a ten year guarantee against breakage and twisting. The trees are adjustable, either at the time of assembling the saddle or later as the horse changes shape and muscles up through work etc. This is a major benefit to young horses and horses that are a remedial fit especially, which can change shape many times during their development period. 3. They offer a large range of quality, British made saddles designed specifically for a variety of disciplines. Some of their saddles are made from a combination of leather and synthetics whilst others are full leather. This has the benefit of making their saddles lightweight and affordable and extremely comfortable for the horse and rider.
What does a saddle-fitting session consist of? A saddle fitting session can last from 1 to 1½ hours and will start with a full consultation which will include an assessment of your horse’s conformation and movement in hand and an assessment of your own particular needs. Whenever possible I would then like to see the horse ridden, all of which is helping me to build up a complete picture thus helping me to understand you and your horse’s specific needs. Any re-flocking or adjustments to your current saddle that can be done on site will be included in the fitting cost. If it’s a new saddle you’re looking for, I will be more than happy to show you what’s available from The Saddle Company.
At times, I do carry a small stock of second hand saddles by other well known makers.
