RVARealty said I needed a mortgage pre-approval before I could even SEE a listing First time home buyer, just started the process of looking at houses and such. I came across a listing that I liked on RVARealty and contacted the broker to see if we could schedule a time to see the property.
He called and said that I would have to have a mortgage pre-approval before any of that. I don't get why I would need to have pre-approval just to *look* at the house? I have a sizable amount saved for a down payment and my credit score is excellent. My questions to you all are:
* Why does one need to have a pre-approval to just *see* a house?
* Is this common practice nowadays and should I expect more pre-approval requirements?
* Does anyone have recommendations for a specific realtor/broker?
As I stated earlier, this is my first go at attempting to purchase a house. Any comments and/or advice is greatly appreciated!

Moving to west end, recommend me a realtor! Looking for a new home in Glen Allen area. Been going to open houses and met a lot of nice realtors, but I wanted to get some recommendations from the reddit family as well before we decide. Particularly if you've recently moved from out of state and had a great experience please let me know!!
