Can anyone recommend a good gastroenterologist?? I was told I needed my gallbladder removed but would like a second opinion and would like to explore alternative methods other than surgery. Thank you!! :)

If you want to go to Beaumont, I would suggest Beaumont Troy. A good gastroenterologist is Dr. Richard Wille. If it is determined that you need your gallbladder out, there are a number of general surgeons here -and they are all good. One group is Premier Surgical Specialists http://www.premiersurgicalpc.com/ If you elect to stay in Port Huron, Anthony Boutt is excellent. He was, I believe, a first year resident when I did my general surgery rotation at St. John. He was impressive even then. Amanda, one thing that I want to mention is to suggest that you ignore the homeopathic/naturopathic suggestions that you do a cleanse that can rid you of gallstones. The problem is that it may dissolve gallstones enough that they pass down into the duct -and sometimes lodge there. This results in gallstone pancreatitis, whihc is extremely painful and very serious. Yes, if they determine that you have gallstones (cholelithiasis), a slow emptying gallbladder (biliary dyskinesia) or an inflamed gallbladder (cholecystitis), get it out. The procedure can be done laparoscopically and have you home the same day. The risk is low.
