  custom or small office style low-pile carpet? This is not exactly the right sub for this, but I'm kind of stumped, so I thought I'd turn to y'all. I have an "office" in my apartment, with hard wood floors and a roller chair. Currently I have one of those plastic "chair pads" for the chair to roll and not scratch the surface. Honestly I hate it – it's ugly and sometimes I want it to be bigger, but it's ugly so I don't want it bigger. I think what I would like is some tough low pile carpet/rug – like in an office, something my chair can roll on. Does anyone know where to get such a thing? Is it a bad idea? I mean, I know eventually the chair will wear into the carpet... that's fine with me if it's not too expensive. I think i would like the feel and look of it more. Thinking of something maybe 6 x 4 or something. I can't seem to find a source for such carpet. All i find is wall to wall, or woven rugs, or plastic chair mats. Am I crazy?

  Inexpensive options/recommendations for flooring My husband and I recently had some AC leakage that resulted in portions of our flooring having to be taken up. Because of the locations of the damage and other related issues, we have to have the ENTIRE flooring for the condo replaced (around 1300 SF total). The good news is, our homeowner’s insurance covered it and cut us a check. The bad news? Between our deductible and them low-balling us, we don’t have as much $$$ as we’d like to replace the flooring. We’re looking to see if anyone has any recommendations for cheap but durable flooring. We would need the current flooring (laminate) ripped up and new flooring installed (as a head's up, the house is fully furnished so whoever does the install would need to work with/around the furnishings).   We bought a remodeled house in 2015. The basement flooring used laminate purchased from Costco. We had a minor flooding issue that soaked about half the floor, and we were able to find the same laminate still in stock at Costco and replace it. Did some ourselves; hired someone to finish the edges/trim/etc. Easy and inexpensive. Another option, although we didn't use it - look into http://www.flor.com

  I have had newfs on cork, hardwood, tile, laminate...pretty much everything, and they all stood up okay.The newer laminate is fine. But my newest love is FLOR carpet tiles. All of our dogs have had some issue with hard surface floors and I can pick these up, wash them in the sink and them put them back down or if they are stained badly enough, just replace as needed.   I have a friend that bought Flor carpet tiles and installed them herself. You need to be careful in a basement, sometimes wall-to-wall is not the best choice (we ended up having a mold problem, and had to rip ours out after it was down for 1 year...boo hoo). Flor.com will send you samples, the cost is similar to wall-to-wall. They have an awesome selection and you can be creative. Theyhold up really well too, and since they are squares of carpet, you can replace individual tiles if they get stained/ruined for any reason (good for having children)! Good luck.
