Landscaping: native trees for small lots Finally done with renting and getting a house built. The builder wanted to put a live oak on the front lawn when the property is only 50 feet wide. I'm looking for alternatives.
It seems like every variety of shade tree grows to become way too big for a lot that size -- eventually branches and roots over or into the house, pipes, driveway, sidewalk, etc (not to mention the neighbors).
So now I'm considering smaller native trees like Texas Redbud and Mexican Plum. Does anyone have recommendations for native trees that will grow well, and not over-sized for a small suburban lot?
