  Ditto Paul - temando.com.au. Careful putting too much trust in couriers, they can bash it around as much as Aust Post. Pack & label well!

  Temando with insurance . if its large and heavy you may only be able to use a few couriers anyway. I suspect TNT will be the cheapest

  check out http://www.temando.com/ - you can check the best quote for a package sent via courier and then book it through their website.

  So many options ... but still not cheap. $110 for a 6 kg parcel to Newman, W.A.(found via Temando) Aus Post won't take anything with a girth greater than 140 cm, Couriers Please won't take glass...it isn't easy. After 18 emails confirming a customer order and who knows how long trying to find the cheapest postage for her she blanched at the postage and is now not answering emails. At least I got a $50 deposit!
