Denied a Firearm ID card, now what? I applied for my firearms ID and was denied due to a mental health commitment at the age or 16, and a run in with DYFS at age 17. I didnt know that a juvenile mental health record was included when I answered "no" to the question "have you ever been commited".
So I called up a firearms attorney, who quoted me $3,500 to help me with an expungement of my juvenile mental health record. He also will assist me in finding a psychiatrist who will write me a clean bill of mental health. I have tried calling all of the doctors in my area and none will write this letter.
My question is, can I get this expungement on my own? Can anyone here recommend a doctor to give me the letter of sanity that I need? Is $3,500 a standard price for something like this? Are there any other lawyers who might have a lower price?
I appreciate any advice you guys can give me, it's really upsetting that something that happened as a minor is coming out now, many years later.
