Any suggestions for a good veterinarian in or around the Soo? Currently at Soo Animal Hospital, looking elsewhere.

Hello everyone, I am Dr.Christopher Hall, owner of Chippewa Animal Clinic and wanted to give my shout out to Dr. Groover as well. He is one of the most candid, smart, and experienced Veterinarians I know. His knowledge base in the large animal field is well known; so much so I send one of my newer Veterinarians with him on farm calls:) I am Native American and one of my teachings is to not talk about ones self i.e. self promotion. So, I'm not going to. But I would like to shed some light on everyone's choices. Obviously, we as veterinarians in a whole cannot please everybody. We however have chosen to devote our lives to helping animals. Our field believe it or not has had multiple studies as to high suicide rates due to compassion fatigue and what not. So, our dedication no matter who you go to is real. The question is how each Veterinarian is right for you and your family -especially including the four legged or hoofed. Lol I feel we all have our talents and pitfalls. There are some of us that provide after hour emergency services, while others don't. There are some of us that have current equipment to provide services that would otherwise have to be referred to Michigan State University, while others don't. There are some of us that perform orthopedic or complex surgeries when referral is not possible. Each clinic is unique in what or how they provide services and it is up to the individual client to decide what is right for them. Personalities are very subjective. Some people click while others don't and that is just human nature. However, I don't believe for a second that any of the veterinarians in our area from Pickford to St.Ignace have not sacrificed family time or significant portions of their life for our clients. In that we are all equal. Prices are very subjective as well. It depends on building cost, staff number, overhead, pricing technique, services offered, and many other factors. Inflation for medical supplies is the highest and can be as high as 12% per year. In fact, some medications this year have increased by 400% which is out of our hands. All of us Veterinarians understand medicine is expensive and the majority of people do not have the funds for all services needed. This is one of the biggest differences between human side and veterinary side. When a human doctor recommends blood work it is done and often insurance covers it where people regarding their animals have to decide if the can afford it. No matter what we ALL do our best to keep cost down and adjust based on peoples needs to the best of each clinics ability. This is now where I can only speak for our clinic. Because we offer a wide variety of in house services ( 2013 ultrasound, digital radiography, complete in house blood services etc) and perform more than spay/neuter surgeries we at Chippewa Animal Clinic base our prices on a formula provided by a Veterinary Economics firm. I do this so it is not a made up number and is consistent across the board. It is the only way we can accommodate a large staff to provide up to date services that day without delays that could mean life or death for many. I am sorry that medicine prices can be out of reach for some but we make every effort to accommodate. I am so proud of my staff that have put their lives on the line (meant literally and figuratively) for all animals out there too. So, we as a profession welcome you and I don't think (can only speak for myself) intentionally mean to offend anyone and only want the best for your animals:). P.S. My 6 yr old daughter as I was explaining what I was writing told me to write " We work hard, we try hard, and we do good. Not to worry your animal will do fine" my heart just grew two sizes bigger. My two daughters want to be Veterinarians when the grow up and I'm very proud.

OMG....Chippewa Animal Clinic, on top of 3 mile hill in the Soo. I have had many animals through out the years, but know I have 3 Jack Russells, one my Shelby they diagnosed with Addison's disease when no other Vet in the area could, my Mr. McGoo cannot have any calcium or struvite foods and they finally found that out by Dr. Hall doing much research and speaking with specialists for me to find this out and gussy id super anxious and has seizuries or should I say had seizures until they found just the right medication to out him on, the took care of both of my "grand doggies" and I can remember during the rough times, Dr. Kate and Dr. Rebecca would just sit on the floor with me and tell me everything would be alright. i have called one of the Dr."s while they were in Las Vegas, Washington D.C on vacations and they still took my call and took the time to listen and give me advice. Everyone on the Staff is family and they are never too busy or any issue to big, and they Never make you feel like you are anxious about anything when it comes to your animals!! Just sayin is all

Dr. Groover is good but with Chippewa Animal Clinic you have the experience of 3 excellent Veterinarians that work together if needed and a staff that includes to Licensed Vet Technicians and they are the most reasonably priced in the EUP.
