  Traditional retailers will cost more than that. The ring before you add the stone costs around that much, for a simple one. This store has good reviews in dfw, but isn't nationally known. I didn't end up buying from them, but liked a lot of their settings: https://swisskonnection.jewelershowcase.com/ You can get a simple setting with a .5 carat moissanite for around $600, or set with a different type of stone if she likes the colorful look. A lot of different colored sapphires are in your price range and can look beautiful.
