  My husband and I are planning to move to Fort Lauderdale in June 2014. We are South Africans, recently immigrated to Idaho (I have some family out here so it seemed like a good place to start). We do not know the area well, could anyone suggest what are the good neighborhoods to rent apartment/housing in? Which websites are best for property rentals, or newspapers to look at?   I'm originally from Durban :) It depends on where your work location will be as Fort Lauderdale and Broward county spans a very large area. If it will be "city local" , then you may want to look at areas close to the city as apposed to way out west , Like Weston or Pembroke Pines etc. If work is closer to the city try keep EAST of U.S. 1 ;) Fort Lauderdale beach front could be compared to Umhlanga Rocks and is expensive , but as one moves west of the intra coastal water way but also east of U.S. 1 , it becomes far more affordable and is generally all nice. :) It also depends a lot on your budget I suppose. I know that quite a few ex- South Africans that live in Oakland park , Plantation and Cooper City. There is a South African store in Oakland Park called "Meal In a Pie". The owner is from Durban. He would be someone you could speak to as well. FYI- He sells a lot of South African goods that he imports and also sells Boreworse and Biltong :) (954) 202-9118 :) Good Luck
