  Cheapest is to rent a unit and do it yourself. I had to get my carpets professionally cleaned as part of my lease when moving out, and I had Bob Wood do it: [http://woodscarpetcleaning.com/](http://woodscarpetcleaning.com/) He charged me $45/area which was a very typical price, and he did a great job. Plus, Bob was incredibly nice.
