My original doctor stated my symptoms were all down to migrains, however now been refered to a ns. However i have no trust in the uk health system and after watching the posts on here i was just wondering if anyone could recommend a good ns in america?, I need one that will reply to me and give me a full price on what i will have to pay so i can start the fund raising, but i also have to bring my family as well so will need somewhere to say for them to!, so can anyone recommend a really good ns for me?   Dr Henderson is in MD, but isn't accepting new patients until next year sometime. The Chiari Institute or Dr Bolognese, both in NY, are both better than anyone we found at Johns Hopkins. Good luck in your search.

  Well when I got tired of everything thing for myself my two choices were the Mayo Clinic in Arizona the Chiari Institute in New York. I got approved to go to both of them but the Mayo Clinic was the first to call me back. But now my Nuerosurgon is from the Chiari Institute so I ended up with both. But to be honest I think you need to go to New York since your so close and that's what they specialize in. I know there are alot of great drs out there but getting a dr who knows what there talking about is the hard part. But you can Google the Chiari Institute.

  Hello all, I need to talk. I went to a doctor a few months ago and broke down in tears. My body had been in so much pain for years. I had been diagnosed with lupis, fibermyalgia, internal shingles ect. I get dizzy, confused, ect. He suggested a brain mri. I have chiari malformation type 1. I came to Arizona and went to mayo clinic. Saw neurologist. He knows nothing about chiari. He is a migraine specialist. I also saw infectious disease dr. He said I need a neurosurgeon. He recommended dr. Nakaji who is supposed to be the best. He looked at my tests, and dr. Notes and said I was not recommended for surgery because he believes my symptoms are from other illnesses. He never even saw me in person. My chiari is 9mm and has some restricted flow. I am so depressed. I feel so dejected and ignored. Any suggestions on how to move forward?

  Hi April and everyone, First time posting here. Wondering if anyone might know of a great neurosurgeon for a third opinion located in NYC. Have been round and round with doctors for quite some time and finally been diagnosed with chiari malformation, platybasia, and dorsally angulated ondontoid process. Have been told it will take two surgeries (back and front) and want to make sure I’m taking the right steps. Worn out physically and emotionally from all this and hoping to finally come to a resolution. Thanks so much for any advice, and bless you for creating this page. It’s wonderful to know I’m not alone and there is hope.

  Hi Heather, I am so sorry to hear you have had so much trouble. I know it can get to be exhausting in every way possible. Have you looked into the Chiari Institue of New York. It's supposed to be one of the best places. I wanted to travel there myself, but getting there from KY just wasn't/isn't going to happen right now.   I have only heard & found great things about the New York Chiari Institute when I was researching different places awhile back. That was actually my first choice when I decided to travel out of state, but had to go with someone a little closer. I know I had an extremely hard time finding Dr's in KY for years & wish I would have traveled to see a chiari specialist/expert a lot sooner & especially before I had my surgery.
