Health Insurance Needed for my Family - COBRA seems much to expensive, are there alternatives worth looking into? I have never bothered learning about how to get personal insurance because I've worked in education for my entire adult life as a teacher. I'm going to be taking a sabbatical for one year and my wife and I are trying to figure out insurance.
The district says we can stay on COBRA but when we work that out we're pretty sure it's telling us that for our family of 5 we'd be spending $5-6,000 a month which would be impossible.
My wife has two herniated discs in her neck and because of things relating to that is in physical therapy pretty often and sometimes in the ER or a clinic. My work insurance covers almost all of that and I'm afraid that any insurance that isn't COBRA will tell her too bad, pre-existing condition.
I think I'm too late to sign up for the Affordable Care insurance window, right?
What should I be looking for?

I would recommend finding a local expert to make sure you know all your options, and are aware of your deadlines to enroll. Here’s a resource to find a local agent: https://nahu.org/looking-for-an-agent/find-an-agent
