I know this is probably not the right place to post this, but I am hoping someone on this page can help steer me in the right direction. I have a pit mix dog that we are fostering. We found him about a year ago. The idea when we found him was to foster him until an adopter could be found. The issue is he has fear based aggression towards other dogs. He gets along with my dog (also a male) but I have yet to be able to introduce him to any other dogs. My daughter can't come over and bring her dogs which has created issues in my family. I took him to a live in trainer for 6 weeks where he was exposed to 60 other dogs and he did fine. I have worked some with one of the trainers from that facility, but he still shows this same aggression for us. The trainer suggested that I take him to the vet to rule out any medical issues and look into anti anxiety meds. The vet has given him a clean bill of health, but said that she isn't really familiar with those types of meds. She also said that she fears for other animals. I was going to take him to see a behavioral vet, but the consultation is $500 and she doesn't have any openings until January. The trainer I was working with lives in Conroe and we have both agreed that that is really too far for either one of us to drive. I am looking for any guidance/support/ideas for help. Does anyone know of a trainer experienced with fear aggressive dogs who has had good results or a vet who you have dealt with and had good results with these types of issues? The easy thing would be to take him to a shelter and let it be someone else's problem, but I'm so attached to this dog. My gut feeling is that he has had a terrible life so far and that we may be the only kindness he has ever known. Sorry for the long post, but I am desperate for help!
