  Where to visit Looking to get away in December on a quick 3-4 day vacation...... from rural NC and had horses my whole life, hate the city and want to get a feel for "real" Texas, not just another big city like I hear Dallas, Houston, Austin can be. Suggestions on where to go and what to see? Obviously I'll have a rental car, don't mind a drive. Wish I could get to the NFR this year but that's out unfortunately.

  Real Texas exists in the cities. The smaller towns are filled with a random assortment of people who feel out of step with 2020, both politically and socially. Don’t expect to see people in masks or feel at ease. Rural Texans don’t like strangers from out of state. https://www.hppr.org/post/another-controversial-billboard-appears-amarillo
