Any recommendations on treating a pecan tree for what I believe are black aphids? I want to use an organic treatment option that will not harm beneficial insects.
Does anyone have a referral for an arborist? The leaves on our Magnolia tree are turning yellow and dropping. The construction crew cut roots to rebuild the sidewalk and I think the tree is having a hard time bouncing back.

I think it could use a "sick tree treatment" from the dirtdoctor.com. He's my natural gardener "guru"!
Something is using the leaves of my Santa Fe Grande Peppers plant as an all day buffet. Any organic insecticide recommendations for a beginning backyard vegetable gardener?

Looks like caterpillar damage, but best to know your enemy first before you call in the armament! Neem oil products are a good starter for many garden pests (double check the label before applying to vegetables or really anything). Bt is effective against controlling caterpillars. You might want to check the website, www.dirtdoctor.com for more insights!
Our crepe myrtles are really sick:( Do any my McKinney friends have a recommendation for a tree doctor? It's CRITICAL!!!

Look at Howard Garrett's site. www.dirtdoctor.com All Organic. Neil Sperry nearly always advocates chemical treatments that aren't that great for kids who play in your yard. Sick Tree Treatment can be purchased at organic garden stores.
Any suggestions for a homemade leafhopper repellant? Thanks!

A good all around systemic repellent is "Garret Juice" made famous by Howard Garret of www.dirtdoctor.com. It is basically the essence of jalapeno pepper, garlic, onion, compost tea and molasses (I think). The garlic is the active ingredient, which makes the plant juices unappetizing to insects. Just a thought though, if the plant is "uber healthy" growing in a mineral rich soil then normally you want have to deal with bugs. I am dealing with an infestation of army worms right now 'cause I used too much of my own fertilizer. Too much N with a boron deficiency, will call the bugs for dinner every time.
