Hey fellow massage therapists, do you have any experience with bodywork for bedridden people? I have a friend whose father just suffered something like a stroke and has been unable to move or speak for the past several months. He's getting physical therapy, but it's minimal. My friend is worried that all the physical contact his father gets is negative (nurses taking blood, cleaning him, etc), so fear is becoming his instinctive response to touch. Do you know anyone who (or any resource that) teaches gentle, loving movement therapy to the families of bedridden people? Are there specialists in this sort of thing? Given his father's inability to provide consent, would he be able to receive bodywork from a specialist with his family's consent?
