What are your favorite takeout entrees? Looking to expand my usual rotation of takeout spots and favorite dishes.
Please provide a recommendation for specifically your favorite dishes at local restaurants. (General restaurant recommendations are great and welcome, but I’m specifically interested in what entree you like there!)
Any side of town, but suggestions within Madison proper would be preferred.
Edit: ok it looks like I have a lot of eating to do. Quite a few spots I haven’t heard of before that I’m excited to check out. Thank you, everyone!

Best food in Madison:
Okay huge list incoming. Big foodie, Madison native. I’m vegetarian but my fiancé isn’t, so I have a mix of vegetarian and non vegetarian options
1. The imam fainted at Oliva. Their food in general is delicious (big fan of their marinara), but this is a Turkish dish that is difficult to find in Madison. It’s so incredibly flavorful, and their rice is phenomenal. I love it. Their eggplant parm is also delicious.
2. Street corn at Canteen. It’s the perfect balance of tart, spicy, and sweet from the corn and it’s incredible. My fiancé just eats that.
3. Bufala Rosso Verde at Pizza Brutta (my fiancé works there) - it’s a margarita with prosciutto and Buffalo mozzarella and their pizzas are incredible
4. Banzo’s F-bomb: their seasoned chicken and the Israeli style of falafel is incredible. Super crunchy, and I love that they put chips in their pita sandwiches.
5. Casetta- No dish here but their Italian sandwiches are delicious
6. Any of the biryanis at Hyderabad House. I’m Indian, and I can vouch for the fact that they are authentic and super flavorful. Get a double ka meetha to go with it for dessert (it’s a bread pudding type thing and it’s rich and very not good for you, but tastes amazing).
7. Kadhai paneer at Dhaba - my personal favorite Indian restaurant in Madison, and it’s a vegetarian classic
8. Bhindi masala or chili baby corn at amber indian cuisine - chili baby corn is indo-Chinese, and the bhindi masala is an Indian preparation of okra
9. Eggplant napoletana at Lombardino’s - they’re iconic and this dish is my favorite. I get it without the raisins. The crust on the eggplant is perfect, and their marinara is phenomenal.
10. Red curry at Sala Thai - it’s in a sketchy-ish house off of east wash and it’s a hidden gem. Order early though because they take a LONG time (I like this dish at sala thai more than the Ha Long Bay version because it’s creamier)
11. Sesame noodle kick or lo mein at Dumpling Haus - family style Chinese food that feels good and homey
12. Vegan roll (the one with the tofu) at red sushi - even if you’re not vegan, trust me. This roll is the bomb. The flavored fried tofu on top is just... *chef’s kiss*
These are just off the top of my head. I could probably come up with more if I thought for longer but clearly, I have a long list. Feel free to DM me if you need more recs! I run a food blog too and you can PM me for the link if you’re interested 😃
