Looking for advice for my attorney friends out there ..... We have set up The Alex Lindberg Memorial Fund to offer a scholarship to a high school student planning to become a Certified Auto Technician. This is not a non-profit organization in a legal sense, although 100% of monies received will go to the scholarship.
We would like to raise more money at a tennis tournament being played and named after our son, Alex Lindberg. We were wondering if it is legal in Alabama to ask for donations, give people who donate a ticket, then a certain # of ticket holders will be drawn and they will receive small prizes (restaurant gift certificates, tennis racquet, etc.). Some may call this a raffle? We don't want to break any laws, just want another way to raise some scholarship money.
Any replies from people with knowledge in this area would be greatly appreciated.
