Recently, we recieved a letter from the city that said we needed to replace the pipe on our side of the water meter because it was poor quality. Turns out, the entire pipe that runs along outaide, under our drive way, needs to be replaced. Apparently, when our house built, they used black iron pipes. The plumber who came out today said that because of this our pipes are starting to rust and high amounts of iron are leeching into our tap water. He mentioned something about this being against current building codes and that it was most likely against building codes when our house was built. Does any one know anything about this? If it was against code when our house was built, then is there anyone we can hold financial responsible for the fix?
