  HELP! We have been infested with tiny black ants. Some people call them crazy ants or Argentina ants or tawny ants. I frankly don't care what kind of ant they are, I just need to know how to get rid of them! If anyone has the same problem and has found something that works could you please post. If you have found an exterminator who can get rid of them that would be helpful too. Much thanks!

  These are Argentine Ants and they have been out of control for years in the SW USA. They "farm" aphids on plants, take the honeydew back to nest, feed it to the larvae and they themselves eat the larvae poop. Also feed on bugs and other ants. They will eradicate other species of ants and bugs ie: fire ants. Many species of lizards in the southwest have become extinct due to the eradication of their food source.There are prolific numbers of these on the lake due to moisture. If you just spray them with common insecticide, they will just hunker down and produce more queens. There are numerous queens in each colony. Very SHOCKED that a local pest control would spray an entire yard on the lake with Termidor, they could lose their license for such. This is highly toxic to the fish, crustaceans, zooplankton, bees, rabbits and some waterfowl. Finally threw in the towel and called Fairfield Pest Control. Randy Foster came last week after we extensively talked about treatment. Both our concerns were how to treat without "poisoning" the lake. Randy sprayed Termidor (when ant walks through this, takes it back to the nest & kills) on building foundations and baited in other places. Also left extra bait for me to use. Had a few tiny microscopic babies on kitchen counter that night, couple hundred came out of shower faucet handle next day but washed them down drain and several hundred came out of who knows where and died. In the yard I have bait trays and also spray them with water mixed with Dawn dishwashing detergent which kills with direct contact. I'm very pleased with the results and hopefully haven't impacted the environment.   Thanks all, I have been researching these lil buggers for years. Had them at prior home in Indian Land. Up there, Amdro Ant Barrier worked wonders but not here. Baited them for 2 years with boric acid & jelly mix in tiny jars with holes punched in lids, kinda kept them under control. But this year, they went wild with all the rain & high water and just paraded over any kind of "ant killer granule." Biggest concern here is harming the water quality since two thirds of property goes under water at 102" & have high run-off during heavy rain. Haven't had 1 fire ant hill this year. Only good thing about these ants, they don't bite. AND Fairfield Pest control only chargped $125 with a 1 year guarantee of keeping them out of your home, will return, no charge if needed.
