  I just used Talk and save on my last trip. It was great. http://www.talknsave.net/ They have offices in Israel and New York. You can get sim for $20 and pay $6/ day for unlimited txt, calls, and data. (They have other plans) Sim will ship to you before you leave and you will have an israel local number and a US number so that people from home can txt and call you and it won't be an international charge. Make sure to call your phone provider and unlock sim before you leave.

It can either be A) a phone rental with sim that has great intl rates B) a rental sim card with above deal + internet or another option if someone has a better idea :).   contact Talk N Save (talknsave.net) and get a sim card from them. They are excellent. You can even rent a netstick from them to give you wifi internet wherever you go.
