I bought my dog's front splint from handicappedpets.com - you can order online and have it delivered to a 3 rd party in the US (something like Johnny Air or similar) that can ship it directly here. The package from handicappedpets isn't big (they shipped it in a pouch and not a box so no excessive packaging) so the shipping shouldn't cost as much.

Otherwise, if you sew, try fitting a swimsuit or stronger lycra for the leg area and use pajama footing for the paw. If you cannot find superweight lycra like they use for biking shorts (about 10 oz. weight) try Seattle Fabrics. Make it smaller than her leg so it stretches for support.

She came to me with a bad back knee, completely shaved down and had bad ear infections and was recovering from severe kennel cough. I love my Mimi - she is the sweetest, smartest dog, and she is a survivor (survived a vicious attack by a neighbors dog). Mimi can get around ok, she sort of trots with both back legs together. She cannot climb or jump. She still loves to go for walks with my other 2 rescue dogs. I was just wondering if anyone knows where I could get a good, heavy duty stroller for Mimi (she weighs 28lbs).? She still wants to walk, but can't always keep up with Bubba and Princess. My vet said that Mimi's kneecap is not attached, but she is used to it, and surgery would probably make it worse. I want to keep her walking, but not overdo, but she wants to be with Bubba and Princess when they go for walks. Laura B. replied:Don't give up on her yet Michelle. If her health is still pretty good but she is just slowing down and has a bum hip she may still have a couple years left in her. Check out this site. Www.handicappedpets.com There are slings to help them stand or support on stairs or going potty. Or, carts for their back sides if everything else is working fine. And dogs can use some good anti inflammatory meds that help with pain (as opposed to cats.) My old girl used a med called Rimadyl for a few years and it really helped. Good luck with your old gal.

If Surgery is not an option time will heal but takes a long time but she needs to not strain it anymore than necessary. I have to do everything I can to make her comfortable while she heals.
