Help.....Stacy Mulich, Cory Mulich, Jesse Paulsen.....anybody that is much wiser about motors than me.....timing belt broke on the 04 Stratus. Shop wants to pull head & do compression test ($200) to check rods and pistons, replace water pump since they are right there & if nothings bent replace belt.....for a grand total of $915 + tax. The place i bought it from will take it to their mechanic (im assuming i will have to pay the tow$$$) & he will fix for around $450. I am also assuming that he will just be replacing the belt. So here is the question. If they dont do a compression test and they just slap the belt on what happens if a rod is bent? A little noise if its not bad & it eventually throws? Or I drive off and throw a rod on the way home & then have a car thats useless? I am almost thinking that i need to spend the big money so i know its fixed right
