  Go out to live readings...there are several weekly ones in town: http://pivotreadings.ca/ http://www.artbar.org/ http://rowerspubreadingseries.wordpress.com/ plus, as a more oblique way in there's the local "spoken word" scene: http://torontopoetryslam.com/ Go to the 4 th floor reference room at Robarts; browse through current editions of literary journals. Browse thematically-oriented anthologies at bookstores, then follow up on the authors you like. Be open to everything, but don't pursue writers or poems just because you feel obliged to by the opinions of "serious readers".
