I'm buying my first horse (16hh warmblood) soon and looking for lots of advice!
Which horse insurance do you use and recommend? Thank you!
Sally M. replied:
Horseinsurance.com is very good, I went thru E&L, they are underwritten by them and have been very pleased. They give lots of options so u only pay for exactly what u need / do xx
I am looking for recommendations for a cheap horse insurance company. I have found a few but would be good to see if anyone has had to claim and how much was covered. Thanks in advance

Do not insure with horseinsurance.com they have been so so so awful after the death of my mare she had to be put to sleep after 11 weeks of box rest with laminitis (she could hardly walk at the end) it was so cruel we had to let her go! So we made the hard choice, and they have been so reluctant to pay for anything they will not accept a vet valuation for her even though it's a formal letter and have been difficult about everything I really would avoid this company as has been nothing but upset after losing her!

Horse insurance. Co.uk is rubbish....tried to claim and they tried everything possible not to until I threatened them to report them to the financial obdusm and the financial authority.....then they paid. ...they are really bad.....
Avoid petplan, e and l and Horseinsurance.com which are underwriten by e and l - lots of vets refuse to deal with them as they can be difficult to get claims from. I use Towergate and they are good but all of the major companies like NFU, KBIS and SEIB come highly recommended x

is there a big difference in horse insurance companies?
i have a quote of $805 from AEIG equine mortality group from Kay Cassel Insurance and i have another quote from Kay Miller Insurance for $593 and the coverage appears to be the same! major medical with colic surgery and mortality. I have never purchased horse insurance so any info is appreciated!!!!!
Best equine insurance company? Thinking of going with seis....any good/ bad experiences with them? Thanks
Stephanie M. replied:
I just insured with horseinsurance.com they were really cheap and they let u add on as ye go along what ye need quite good that way. X
Lorraine M. replied:
horse insurance. co.uk is underwritten by E & L . I had no problem with payout (took about 6/8 weeks though)but had to pay vet fees up front as my vet wouldn't touch them , apparently e & l have a bad reputation. Now with SEIS.
Any recommendations on equine insurance companies? (Good / avoid). Also, better to use an agent /broker or purchase directly through the insurance company? I'm in southern CA, if that matters. Thanks in advance!

I've used Markel Horse Insurance for years. I've not had any major claims, but they're always good when I have questions. You can actually submit an application online, so it's really easy. www.horseinsurance.com
