I live in Ireland, but I haven't had much time to explore the rest of the country. I'm looking to potentially leave my job in the spring and take a few months to cycle, explore, and maybe do some workaways along the way. So... has anyone cycled the route? Some things I'm looking for are: Physical difficulty of the route Best gear setup-panniers/backpack Camping vs. hostels and B&Bs Relative costs Any recommendations or can't miss stops!

I actually carry one water bottle in one and bear spray in the other and use a Os prey Raptor backpack with a bladder . I set it up depending on the environment as water is 8.2 pounds per gallon as you probably know:) You can also get some good info at bikepacking.net , CrazyGuyOnABike.com , and DFW bikepacking on FB...

Also the ACA has routes down US 50. It's a great route but very empty. Have plenty of everything and travel in the late fall when it's cool. Spring tends to have a lot of wind and rain. There is one stretch where it's 90 miles between towns. That said, an epic route I'd like to do again. There is also an annual ride down 50.
