First time buying health insurance Hello, this is my first time buying health insurance for myself as an entrepreneur. I have made it several years without having any health insurance and have started to get sick recently. I went to a doctor and paid $100 for her to tell me that I needed an MRI for neuropathy and blurry vision, which I don’t disagree with. She said that there was nothing she could do for me with these issues UNTIL the MRI. I am a 29 year old Female. I know nothing about insurance and was hoping someone could give me some good insurance companies to go with, that take pre-existing medical conditions. The doctor that I saw told me that if I suddenly signed up for insurance, and went to get an MRI that they would not cover a pre-existing condition. Hence, I would be paying thousands of dollars for this MRI and I absolutely cannot afford that. I am also in Colorado. What’s best? Silver , bronze? Catastrophe? Please any guidance is welcome. Thank you.

Medicaid and any Marketplace plan will cover pre-existing conditions. Never listen to what a doctor says about health insurance, they likely know nothing or very little about it. www.healthcare.gov or http://www.connectforhealthco.com/, more specifically. The health insurance (namely the subsidies) for which you're eligible will depend upon your MAGI. The wiki has all the info you need to get started. You can always come back here when you know which specific plans are available to you.
I recently opened my own practice and currently do not have health insurance. Does anyone have any suggestions on insurance for a small business owner that's cost effective? What does everyone do?

If you are in Colorado, check the ACA for your state at this link. http://connectforhealthco.com
I need health insurance, 20 years no insurance, any ideas?
Casey M. replied:
www.connectforhealthco.com or www.ehealthinsurance.com are your best options, Matt. You could also search as a small business - may help your rates, too. Good luck!

You can also get a short term (6 month) insurance now before open enrollment. Google it. You should definitely see Kim, as the Connect for Health Colorado site is super unfriendly
Need to know of a good doc that takes adult medicaid other than Urgent Care. I need to go have some blood work done and have my thyroid checked. Thyroid issues runs in my family and I've been experiencing some symptoms that suggests that mine could possibly be malfunctioning. TIA

also fyi - nyone needing to sign up for insurance this year, today is the deadline unless you have a "life-changing event", and those without will be charged a penalty of $325/adult or 2% of income whichever is greater when you do your taxes next year. connectforhealthco.com
Cooper, you can get cheap dental insurance through http://connectforhealthco.com/. Same place we get health insurance. Dentists in Delta and GJ take it. You still pay something in addition to the insurance cost, typically about 50%.
A friend of mine is looking for an insurance agent so he get some health insurance. Does anyone do, or know anyone who does that work?

I don't know that insurance agents do health insurance, but I know there are people who can help people navigate the health exchanges. I think the website is connectforhealthco.com
Any suggestions out there for Health Insurance? I have looked at: connectforhealthco.com. Any ideas for self-employed family of 2?!
Heather L. replied:
Leah - when you went to connectforhealthco.com did you calculate your subsidy? If you qualify for a subsidy, (and being that you are currently unemployed, I am sure you will) the rates are MUCH lower than they show when just browsing plans.
I need to start hunting around for health insurance for my family. Not even sure where to start or how upcoming changes will affect this. Any advice or recs on insurance agencies, plans or info sources greatly appreciated!

The insurance marketplaces will come online Oct 1, 2013, and coverage will begin January 1, 2014. The eligibility for Medicaid is expanding. There are organizations that will assist individuals in navigating these options. The two organizations that will be assigned to help Delta County residents find an insurance plan are Hilltop Community Resources and Tri-County Health Network. If you need help finding info on these two organizations, let me know. The Connect for Health Assistance Network will certify Assistance Sites across Colorado to deliver local, in-person education and help to individuals and small employers applying for health insurance coverage. Certified Health Coverage Guides located at the Assistance Sites will provide unbiased assistance with plan evaluation and the health coverage application process. In addition, they will provide outreach and public education about Connect for Health Colorado, the range of health coverage options, and help you determine if you qualify for new federal financial assistance, based on income, to reduce the cost of health insurance.
