  Looking for suggestions on decent all rounder machines for birthday present for my mum. As the title suggests, I'm looking for a decent all rounder sewing machine for my mum's birthday as she is wanting to get back into sewing. I'm not sure what types of projects she'll be wanting to do hence the idea of getting an all rounder. She used to be a seamstress but hasn't really done anything in almost 30 years. I'm based in the UK if that is any help with suggestions. Not sure on budget at the moment but there is a group of us chipping in so all suggestions and variety on price are all welcome. I've also got a Janome, but if your mom has a machine put away somewhere, it might still be usable. If so maybe consider a serger as a second machine. I'm currently looking at the Janome MXL50 :)

Six years after buying I had a question (lost the manual :) and got a speedy response, no issues. There's a sale at the moment, see if there's anything there... Aldi and Lidl have great returns policies. You could get one from either and see how you like it, nothing lost. I've heard good things from one or the other (I *think* Aldi, but...) but can't remember which.

  There's a Singer or a brother model you can get for around £130/£140 both entry level with 3 or 4 thread capability. I can recommend this site on both price and service and freebies https://www.sewingmachines.co.uk

  Highly recommend a Brother! I have both an Innovis 550 and Innovis 350SE that I use for work and both are fantastic. They both handle full time constant use. I can use them for anything from chiffon and lycra to upholstery and leather with no problem. Hobbycraft can be very overpriced I wouldn't buy a machine from them tbh. I always used https://www.sewingmachines.co.uk/ and can't fault them in their service! I'm fully self taught and work full time as a costume maker and drapes person for TV.
