  The best to my knowledge (and the one I am using) is Plex (plexapp.com) this has both DLNA and plexstream (preparatory protocol), has on-the-fly transcoding (which is a must if you want to use it with a device that does not support some of the available formats without re-encoding), has both iOS and android versions, has Internet playback, has sync to device, it even has torrent client built-in (using a plugin) in shorts the BEST EVER!!!!

  We've tried several types of those boxes (Western Digital, Apple TV, Roku) and my hubby likes the Roku best. We haven't had cable in years. The only downfall is getting sports without cable.http://www.playon.tv/playon
