  www.virginiaequestrian.com is a good resource. Be prepared for a 45 minute drive. It sucks. But there are plenty of good barns. Partial lease is common for this area at the the show barns but there are trainers who have lesson horses. Are you hunter, jumper, dressage, eventer, or western? Also, if you ever are looking for a volunteer opportunity... [Bridle Path](http://www.bridlepathsva.org/) in Leesburg is an amazing group who does wonderful work in therapeutic riding. [Northern VA Therapeutic Riding Program](http://nvtrp.org/) (near Centreville, I think) is another excellent program that sometimes needs volunteers.

  We will be moving to Northern Virginia in the next few months. I have spent the last eight months and northern Illinois, but have lived the past 12 years and southeastern Virginia. I only have a few contacts in Northern Virginia and I am looking to make new contacts. We have two horses and two ponies and I will probably need to find a place to board them. We have a place we can stay temporarily, while we try to find a new home, but there is no place for the horses there. So my first question is if I can have help trying to find a good place to board my horses and ponies the summer that isn't going to cost me an arm and a leg. They can be passed your boarded, as long as there is a shelter from the sun and bad weather. Then I will need recommendations for veterinarians and farriers in Northern Virginia. And finally, if anyone hears of a small farm for sale, I would love to hear about it. We may consider renting, but prefer to buy. Thinking I will need at least 5 acres or something close, need to find something close to train or bus lines, my husband will be going into Washington DC to work. We also have two girls who are in elementary school, so would like to be in good school district. We know we will have to live further out, as we are looking for something under 300,000. Thank you Vance if you can offer any help with any of my questions. Please pardon any words that look out of place for our misspelled, I am dictating as I am legally blind and sometimes miss typos.

I'm living in Colorado now, but I have a friend who will be moving to the DC area. This is a bit of a stretch, but she is looking for recommendations for a place to board and train there with a trainer specializing in western pleasure and trails. She has a nice American Saddlebred who can be a bit hot. He really stretches her confidence some days! I have experience riding English and western from hunter/jumper to speed events and western pleasure. exercise riding is also an option! or teaching lessons if barn work is not needed or all three! I train horses using the advantage horsemanship technique. That can include anything from breaking horses out to teaching green horses the basics and experienced horses more advanced moves.   Welcome to Virginia - there is a great website www.virginiaequestrian.com which is full of contact information. Also pick up a local paper called Valley Trader. It's all ads, but lots for hay and straw. Depending on how many horses you have, if you use straw, the local mushroom growers will pick it up for free. I also recommend Piedmont Vet - all good vets there. I usually use Dr. Theiss or Dr. Krista (who's husband is my farrier.)

  ISO trainer for groundwork I have a 14 year old gelding with some rudeness issues. He had several years off without any work/training and while I've been making progress since January, I'm only able to work with him 1-2 times a week. I think he needs a bit of a groundwork bootcamp. Under saddle he's generally pretty good. He's currently in Centreville, VA (near Manassas Battlefield). I am open to keeping him there or bringing him to a trainer's facility (would need to be in northern Virginia) for a period of time (probably start at 1 month and see how it goes). He's a smart guy, but he needs to build some respect. I unfortunately am new to this area, so it's hard to know who to trust. If you can provide any information about your training philosophy and references, that would be really helpful. Thanks!
