Need a new mattress What recomendations do people have for long lasting firm queen size mattresses with no pillow topper? Hoping for something that can stay sturdy for close to a decade instead of two years like the crappy foam one I have now from Ikea (it was only $150 and I needed something quick and cheap at the time). Thanks in advance!

Not really what you were looking for, but I found this website really helpful when I was shopping for one. https://www.themattressunderground.com/ It can help you become a little more of an informed shopper so that you can ask the right questions to find the matress you want.
Does anyone know where in the US I can buy the top part of a mattress and not the cheap mattress pads that keep showing up? I made the mistake of spending $3000 on a bed that is way too firm for me. I’ve bought foam toppers and mattress pads/toppers from Amazon, and nothing is what I need. I just want the top part of the mattress! Does anyone sell them? Here is what I mean https://imgur.com/gallery/3E8fu1l

Look at [themattressunderground.com](https://themattressunderground.com). I am sure someone on that site can suggest something for you. I red all that I could there and asked questions before I bought our new mattress. Our mattress is customized so that I have the softer 'pillow' top and my hubby has the firm top. And if it does not work we can exchange it or if later we can change our sides to what we each need. We bought a king size Nest Alexander mattress and the price was half that price.
Are there any good stores to purchase a mattress from in South OC? Title. Looking for a mattress for $700 to $1k tops.

What kind of mattress are you looking for? Big box stores have ridiculously high mark ups and tend to use lower quality materials. There's actually a lot of research that should be done when purchasing a mattress because it costs a lot of money and could affect your health. The best resource I've found is: https://www.themattressunderground.com For SoCal stores that sell direct to the public and have showrooms, I've purchased from Nest Bedding (foam - Fountain Valley) and Flexus Comfort (latex/box spring hybrid - Covina) and would recommend both.
Where do you look for recommendations for items that don’t conform to BIFL (i.e. a mattress)? Hi everyone — I am in the market for a mattress. However, I realized that a lot of the online reviews I was reading were probably paid-for ads. I don’t feel it’s appropriate to ask for a BIFL recommendation on an item that usually has a pretty standard lifespan (I know there are bad mattress that wear out fast and should be avoided, but generally I would expect a good mattress and a mediocre mattress to last the same amount of time and instead be differentiated by different sleep comfort levels).
So where would you go to find a recommendation for a mattress, or for other high-quality items that don’t fit well into the mold of BIFL?

www.themattressunderground.com has got a ton of information on what to look for in a mattress and how. They touch on build composition, quality, manufacturing process and more, along with how to navigate the options to find what works for you personally. It's a little bit of work, but it's worth the effort of finding what works for you so you can truly get your "bifl" mattress.
[Request] I'm looking for a 5-star hotel quality mattress at a cost not so price gouging. What should mattress I get? So far I'm looking at the new Purple mattresses, though $2,300 is a lot for a mattress that I don't see a lot of talk on.
I am willing to pay ~$2,000 if the value is worth the cost. What mattresses do those 5 star hotels use?

Best place to buy a mattress Sorry for the boring "please help me" post but can anyone recommend a good furniture store to buy a mattress from? Some places seem like they carry a sketchy used car lot kind of vibe.
I've lived here a while but inherited a mattress so I've never had to bother to learn about this before.
Thanks!

I consider [The Mattress Underground](http://www.themattressunderground.com/) to be my "Mattress Bible", and they have a list of Austin (and other Texas cities) stores [right here](http://www.themattressunderground.com/mattress-forum/general-mattresses/1267-need-help-fast.html#1272). TMU is also great for educating yourself on what's available, what you can avoid, and getting your money's worth!
Subreddit where I can find help picking a mattress? Looking to purchase a quality mattress but have no idea which subreddit to ask. Please help.

The best mattresses in the area are made at Yankee Mattress in Agawam. Be careful of Sleepys and department stores. For the best retailer it is John Wholley at CONNECTICUT Mattress and last Bob's. I started selling bedding in 1971, I know the product better an any of the "sleep experts" look for coil count and type of coil. It is the combination of the two that matters, with the foam types. Make sure you lay down on them and don't be quick to get up, bring your partner if you have one. Last check the mattress underground an excellent resource.
