Try going through insuremytrip.com and put in your information. I normally pick "Travelsafe Classic" as a good balance between cost and benefits, though I've never had to file a claim. FWIW, I really like their medical evacuation coverage.

Look on insuremytrip.com for the prices of policies and what you can get covered. A lot of what you read on here is not correct; enough premium money and you can get covered. Trip insurance is the best money I "waste". I travel with two family members who have food-triggered anaphylaxis, so I get very picky about my trip insurance.

Insurance is always a good idea to purchase. I really wouldn’t worry about the virus unless it absolutely explodes here in the states. If that were to happen it would likely be the cruise would give you credit for another trip but it would have to be pretty bad for that to happen. Unless you purchase insurance for cancel for any reason Coronavirus won’t be a reason to be able to cancel. Typically cancel for any reason has to be purchased close if not the day you actually purchased the tickets. Personally I purchase insurance for the medical reasons if I got stuck somewhere or who knows what. I will be heading out at the end of the month and I’m not worried about the virus. https://www.insuremytrip.com

Potential long post incoming. All these points are based on US Based insurance 1. The cruise line does offer their own insurance (Most US based cruise lines use the same company AON) for it. 2. If you are going transatlantic the Cruise package probably would not offer enough coverage for an air ambulance back to the States which would be 50-350k, Cruise line package includes 25-50k 3. Others stated insuremytrip.com it's the site I can suggest as it shows you the policies more then "Reviews. 4. Look for a company that offers "Primary Medical" coverage. what is that? It means you do not need to submit to your primary insurance first for medical (Including ship medical) If the coverage is "secondary" you will need to submit to your primary medical first, wait for the EOB, then submit to Travel insurance for reimbursements 5. MOST insurances will be "Pay & Submit" (primary and secondary) for medical (not Evac) meaning you will need to pay for your costs upfront (Or be invoiced) and submit a claim. There are exceptions: *Being held from discharge for medical payment, or needing a payment to secure admission. *If admitted for a hospital stay, sometimes payment can be arranged *Having no funds for a visit, including but not limited to credit cards, family friends, wire transfers. *In each exception an invoice (or estimate) and medical report will need to be submit before a Guarantee of payment can be sent from the Insurance. 6. Medical Evac will be determined by the Insurance (Usually goes the way you want) but the way you will be evac might not be. Are you getting good care where you are and aren't safe to be transported? Then you are staying put till you can be. Are you better but might need Oxygen on a flight or to be monitored? Then a nurse will be flown out. DO you need to return or be flown somewhere NOW b/c the place you are at (at medical direction) cannot take care of you? Then you get an Air Ambulance. That said most times if you are hurt treated and need to return home and can travel they will get you home, one way or another 7. If you or your travel companion is hurt are evac'd or you have to return home early some policies will require to you pay upfront for your ticket, then submit for a claim. Some will pay upfront for you as well. 8. Even though the policies do say they will help you with x,y,z. IT might be out of pocket. Such as traveling and there is a death at home and you want to return early. They will assist you in getting tickets but you will need to pay out of pocket. EX: Family back home dies and you want to return home sooner, Yes; usually a covered event but you generally (all the polices I work with) require you to pay out of pocket and submit a claim 9. World Nomads is good but be prepared to know the following information" Primary insurance, have a copy of your DL/Passport ready, itinerary with your departure out of and back to US (Air/Cruise), employer or last employer if not employed, and don't have insurance. If you go World Nomads get the Explorer package at least. Also they are Secondary coverage for medical, aside from the above expections. 10. If you don't get the cruise line insurance, keep a copy of your policy documents (or at least your Confirmation of Coverage) with you, incase you see ship medical, or medically disembarked. 11. looping back to #8 trip delays are usually out of pocket as well, if flying fly the day before to your destination at least. This includes Hotels. If you are delayed it is the airline's responsibility to get you to your destination, even if late. That doesn't mean the insurance will not assist you in getting to your ship, but you will need to pay upfront and submit for reimbursement consideration. 12. Write down the insurance assistance number, know who you purchased your policy though and know your plan number/policy number/confirmation number. Know when you left, know when you should have returned home, know the name of the boat you were on. IF you go to a Doctor land side, know where you are. 13. be prepared to get faxs/email/phone calls from the insurance if you need their assistance for medical. Most cell phone plans now have some decent intl roaming plans, make sure you look into that as well. There will be paperwork needed. Don't be surprised by it, or the need for it. boxes have to be checked, including your safety. Insure will not let you get on a plane w/o knowing you are safe to do so (at least on their upfront dime) They will have steps you need to complete. Don't be afraid to ask questions if you have any on the forms. 14. Dental is usually 100% pay and claim and only emergency needs. 15. I'd suggest at least $100,000 medical, $1 million evac, 150% Trip Interruption in coverage for a transatlantic cruise. The reason for trip interruption @ 150% is that is where your hotels/meals/airfare comes from if you aren't being Medical Evac. That said. 100% get Trip insurance. Many unexpected things happen, I have too many stories. Source: Currently working for one of the largest Travel Assistance companies. I will not recommend one over the other aside from what I suggested above. Edit: Sorry for long post. I will check this occasionally for questions but as noted it's a throwaway.
