Looking for a good second project I bought a machine and took a beginners' sewing class three years ago. Though the instructor recommended we choose a simple first project (pillowcase, PJ pants, etc.) I went ahead and eagerly chose to make a dress with semi-stretchy fabric. It didn't end well, I got discouraged, and my machine sat in a closet until recently. With that said, can anyone suggest project ideas for someone who has been familiarized with the basics, but wants to make something that will encourage confidence and continued pursuit? Preferably something more interesting than an envelope pillow. I'd prefer something that can be made with cotton, for obvious reasons. Thank you :)

I would make an easy top. There are so many these days with no zippers or buttons and bonus, you get to wear what you make. I'd start with a top pattern rated "easy" from sewingpatterns.com. I highly recommend using a pattern make for wovens, not knits. You'll learn a lot and have a finished garment you can wear.
Does anyone have or know where I could find a pattern for a fitted hoodie?

At sewingpatterns.com you can look at the major brands (McCalls, Butterick, etc.). You can buy them there too, but I'd recommend staking out Jo-Ann's for a pattern sale, they have them pretty often.
