Hello everyone!! I'm a new runner. I recently lost 80 lbs and I am starting to get in better shape. I did the Trek the Tower on Saturday and now looking for my next adventure. I want to try to complete a 5k, 10k, and end it with a half marathon in October. Any recommendations on training? I have found some apps. Is there a treadmill workout to start with? Just looking for recommendations. Also where do I find all the runs around the Omaha area?

I really like halhigdon.com. I have used this training for mulitple halfs and 4 fulls with the plans on running 3 more fulls this year!
Can anybody recommend a marathon training plan? Booked in for Manchester next April. Will be first marathon, have done 3 half maras all this year. Thanks!

I've got the Hal Higdon book with its training plans . Your welcome to borrow it . His training programmes are 5 running days per week though , so it's not to everyone's taste. I used the intermediate 1 plan for my first .
After a major hiatus from consistent running, I found out yesterday that I passed my 4th and final section of the CPA exam!!!! 3.56 glorious miles today with Meg on my mind, can anyone give me a recommendation for half marathon training? I have a lot of newfound free time now that I am finished studying!!!
What running ap do you guys recommend that can help plan a marathon? Thanks
Alli K. replied:
Hi! I haven't used his app, but I have used the Hal Higdon training plans that are free on line. http://www.halhigdon.com You can purchase an app that will give you the same plans on your phone, but again I haven't tried the app so I'm not sure how it compares to what you can get on line.
Hi running buddies! I'm running my very first marathon this June 13th at the Seattle Rock n Roll. I would love a copy of a generic (ish) 16 week training schedule I could modify but mostly follow. Any great suggestions? Thanks!!

I used www.halhigdon.com for my first couple 1/2's and marathons. He has plans for every ability level.

I second Hal Higdon -- he got me through my first marathon! Along with his training plans, which are available online, his book, appropriately titled "Marathon," is fantastic for first-timers.
Does anyone know where I can find a good 1/2 marathon training plan?

Hal Higdon (er, his training plans) are my favorite!

Hal Higdon's half marathon plans look pretty good -- I make my own plans but I'd like to think of them as a Hal Higdon/Jack Daniels hybrids. I like the overall structure of Higdon's plan but his speed and especially tempo workouts lack specificity. I prefer Daniel's definition of tempo workouts -- 20 minutes continuously at tempo pace (after a thorough warmup, of course) or slightly longer at tempo pace but broken into cruise intervals of between 1000 m and 2 miles.
Who on here has ever done a half marathon?? I need training suggestions. Erin Matherly this means you!!
Erin M. replied:
Hal Higdon is the bomb! Used his plans for my 3 minis and the full. www.halhigdon.com Which one are you doing?? So exciting!!
Melanie P. replied:
I've done a few and I tried to go by the Hal higdon schedule but mainly just ran. I think I'm quite a bit older than you but I don't care anything about speed, just want to cover the distance.
My goal next year is to become a half fanatic by June and run a full marathon in November. Does anyone have a half marathon training program to suggest. Please pray for me as I bring my dreams to reality......thank you!

Hal Higdon all the way! They are free on his website halhigdon.com , you can choose between novice, intermediate & advanced. Best of luck & happy running!
Hey CAT runners! I plan to run my first road marathon in November (the Richmond race). Any suggestions for a training plan? Can I get by with running just 40miles a week in addition to swimming workouts?
Bob C. replied:
CTC is a very good option to get good local coaching and plenty of people to run with. For online plans, halhigdon.com has good training plans. I started off with the Intermediate I plan. There are better programs if your goal is a fast marathon, but Higdon's is enough to finish in good shape, and probably really good at getting you to the start healthy, and is inline with building up to 40 or a bit more per week.
Does anyone know if there is a package where someone could sign up to go from the couch to a half marathon, with races planned to coincide with goals to reach a half?
Charlie S. replied:
Hey Charles Ward...if you haven't yet check out www.halhigdon.com for great information on training programs and of course there are several great training programs which have just started In Indy to get folks ready for the Mini.
Hi, I am fairly new to running, and looking for a coach/trainer or program to help with distance, speed, nutrition & strength. I just ran a 15K and am wanting to prep for a half marathon. Any ideas?...
I have ran 5 half marathons and my first was 2 1/2 years ago. In that time I went from running my first in 2 hours and 15 minutes to my most recent which was 1 hour and 33 minutes. I used Hal Higdon's training plans. He has plans on his website www.halhigdon.com for various distances and according to your stage in running. He has a beginner, intermediate, and advanced program. These programs have really helped me with my speed and endurance. I hope this helps. Myrna
OK, putting it out there to make myself accountable. Once my sprained ankle is stable again, I'm going to focus on speedwork for a while rather than distance - I want to have a crack at my (several years old) 5 and 10 km PBs. Probably at Busselton and Bunbury next year (and parkruns along the way). Any recommendations for training plans?
Shaye P. replied:
Hal Higdon :-) adapt one of his plans to fit in parkrun http://www.halhigdon.com/
