Kathleen B. replied:i hope its not a skylight issue, what i've learned is that they often can never be permanently fixed. i used Roofing Louisiana about a year and half ago on a skylight repair-- they sealed it and put new shingles around it but it still leaked and i had to have them come back this year and they said that the actual problem was not a roof leak but that the skylight needed to be replaced. so we replaced the skylight and now i'm waiting to see if we continue to have leak problems. it takes awhile to notice b/c you have to wait for the discoloration that is indicative of the small leak. so for me i have mixed reviews of Roofing Louisiana-- I think they should have told me when they first came out that the skylight needed replacing. I had to pay for the same repair twice. just make sure whoever you use is in good standing with the better business bureau: http://www.bbb.org/

Andy H. replied:We recently had Wildwood Tree Care & Landscaping come out and trim up 2 big Cottonwood trees and remove a different tree and grind out the stump. I think it was around $700 or so, but it took them awhile. The snow didn't help a few weeks ago, but they did come back and finish the job. I had done a search at bbb.org and they had 2 complaints filed, which gave them a F rating. I would disagree with that rating, but that's what they have listed. Maybe take a look at bbb.org with whatever companies you are looking for. But based on the picture you posted, I'm guessing it could be up to $4000 for complete removal and haul away.

Ask to see the contractor’s insurance policy, especially for roofing, painting or tree removal services. If the contractor is uninsured, you may be liable if an accident occurs on your property. Beware of fly-by-night contractors. Don’t do business with strangers who knock on your door promising immediate home repair in exchange for up-front payment. All too often, they will overcharge you for shoddy work or simply take your money and run. Say no to now or never offers. Steer clear of any contractor who tries to rush you or says that a price is only good today. Get three written estimates. Compare them and be sure to check out each contractor’s qualifications and references. Get it in writing. Once you’ve chosen a contractor, ask for a written contract detailing all the work to be performed. It should specify the quality of materials to be used, the total price for labor and materials, any warranties or guarantees, the start and finish dates, and who will be responsible for clean-up. Study the contract carefully. Don’t sign any contract without examining it closely, and don't get pressured into signing it before you’re ready. If you sign a home improvement contract at your home rather than at the contractor’s place of business, you have three business days to cancel the contract under North Carolina law. Don’t pay up front. Try to pay once the project is completed, or in installments as phases of the work are finished. A reasonable down payment may be required for some projects, but don’t pay anything without getting a written contract first. Avoid paying with cash. If possible, pay by check or credit card. If a small contractor claims to need a lot of money in advance for supplies and materials, it may be a bad sign. Instead, consider purchasing the supplies and materials yourself and paying for the labor once the project is finished. Follow the project closely. Bring problems to the attention of your contractor promptly. If you’re building a home or taking on a major renovation, you may want to hire a home inspector or other construction expert to help you spot and fix problems. Keep a punch list. Make a note of any problems on your “punch list” of items to be fixed by the builder. Make sure the list includes a deadline for completion of the work. Don’t pay until you’re satisfied. Do not make a final payment until you’ve inspected the work thoroughly and agree that it has been completed as spelled out in your contract. Helpful Tips regarding solicitors: Place a “No Trespassing” or “No Soliciting” sign at your front door and at the front of your drive way. Make sure that both of these signs are highly visible and can be easily seen by anyone who might be a solicitor, so that there is no mistake that the sign was not seen. Use GOOD judgment. You don’t have to open your door to a solicitor. Speak with them through your locked door, ask them to identify themselves, and ask them to state what their business is. If you don’t feel comfortable speaking to them, tell them you have no interest in what they are offering, and politely ask them to leave. If you do decide to open the door and speak with a solicitor. Don’t be afraid to say “NO” if you don’t want to purchase their product/participate in their cause. At ANY TIME, you can always ask the solicitor to leave. If they refuse to leave, shut your door and call 911. If you do choose to speak with a solicitor, always remember that a solicitor is still a STRANGER. Never tell a solicitor that your spouse/parents are not home. Your safety is your biggest priority. Always be cautious when providing credit card numbers, checks, and/or cash to door-to-door salesman. Asking a Solicitor for the name of his/her company and researching the legitimacy of the company is a good way to help prevent being taken advantage of or having your financial/personal information compromised. Use a polite tone and be respectful with Solicitors. Solicitors should be using the same tone when speaking to you. If a solicitor becomes agitated and too aggressive or makes threatening statements, close the door and terminate the contact with them. Then call 911 to report the incident. Be aware of new dishonest sales pitches. Solicitors have been known to pretend to be from your neighborhood or claim to know someone in your neighborhood in order to build rapport with you or gain your trust. Always ask follow up questions and contact the people who the Solicitor claimed to know before giving personal or financial information to them. NEVER let a Solicitor into your home! As a general rule for safety, especially during the solicitor season, ALWAYS keep your doors locked and alarms activated (cars and residence). Do not leave wallets, purses, or things of value in plain sight where someone might be tempted to break into your car or house and take your belongings. Alarms and locked doors serve as great crime prevention deterrents, especially if you are not at home.

Call a few that are rated well and have them come give you quotes. From my own experience, have them give you in writing an exact list of everything they are to do at each visit. For a housekeeper, I'm not certain where to find them, but possibly the above resources can help. Also check for a housekeeping agency in your area that can send a dedicated housekeeper to you.

Ryan Check out the BBB.org That's how I found the trucking company I used. Forget the name but they did a great job. Shipped from GA to WI for $600 ish. Watch out for fees for lowered cars or cars with ground effects etc. Thanks
