I’m fed up with the blanket refusals/silly quotes from insurance companies whose underwriting is purely a tick box exercise rather than a proper evaluation of risk. (The issue is purely a postcode one, relating to perceived flood risk even though the property has never been flooded.) TIA.

  My mortgage broker sorted out home insurance for me and did a decent job. I don't know if they only do that when getting a mortgage or if they will do just insurance quotes, but you could always ask. First Mortgage on Home Street: www.firstmortgage.co.uk

  A guy called Ben Riley at M&R Financial (based in Dunston) - www.firstmortgage.co.uk or tel: 0191 4606255. I've not used them but a friend has for mortgages, life insurance etc and he got them really good deals and great service.
