  I just had a client's electrician come over to do an estimate. He wanted $900 (which is reasonable for the work) in cash (not so reasonable) with no receipt (scary)..Thoughts on this? And suggestions for other electricians who offer proper receipts?

  I agree with Sophia. That pt made, this is not the way to establish a professional rapport with a new client. No receipt, cash only suggests a fly by nighter. Do I do this as a landscaper? On rare occasion. Only after rapport is established. There are many official authorities watching. Far better to obey the laws at all levels.   I'm looking for a landscape designer who can provide us with an estimate now that we've (almost) got a fresh slate in our very large backyard. There is so much potential!! The problem I've encountered thus far is that companies willing to design want to also do all the work but we would like to be able to pick and choose the work we do vs the work they do. I also prefer a company that won't outsource work to third-party contractors as we've have issues before with this type of arrangement. Suggestions? TIA :)
