  Bicycle Shipping I’m trying to purchase a bicycle from a bike shop in Wisconsin but they won’t ship out to California. Does anyone know of a shipping courier that’ll pick up the bicycle that’s already in a box and ship it to a residential address in California? Tried UPS already but they don’t do pick ups to ship to residential addresses. Thanks a lot, Chris

  Bikeflights.com uses Fedex, they will do all the paperwork and e mail you a label to print. warning, home delivery is expensive, dropping off a bike, and picking it up at a terminal is lots cheaper then paying a truck driver to drive to your house. Porch pirates are now a problem. I live in Hawaii, and I shop for freight, big and slow on a ship, is cheap. Overnight Air is big bucks, check out freight forwarders, go by rail and truck.

  BikeFlights.com offers pooled and competitive rates for shipping bikes. Somewheres around $100 a bike (depending on insurance value). You'll need to prep and box them up though. Sell canoe- buy different canoe?

  Silverdale Cyclery boxed up my bicycle. The box's dimensions are 32 inches by 52 inches by 10 inches. The weight is about 35 pounds. I need to ship the bicycle to Virginia.   through bikeflights.com! To ship from LA to Boston at the end of my xc trip this winter was $53, then for each $10 extra you get $1000 for insurance. They can ship from fedex or pick up at a bike shop(might be a few dollars extra) and to your house or wherever is easiest.

  Bikeflights.com is the best I've seen for shipping. Large MTB to Durango last month was 75 bucks. They contract with the carriers, in this case fedex did the actual shipping, but cost was about 30% less.

  I use Box Dog Bikes in the Mission. Bikes are allowed on BART now, so that's not an issue. Hub charges $50 to pack a bike (and they will save a cardboard box for you if you plan ahead with them). Most shops have a light tune-up included as part of a build-up from the shipment, so it costs more. Box Dog is $80 I think. For shipping I use bikeflights.com, which uses FedEx. My rates to San Francisco are $71 one way. That includes insurance and pick-up of the bike from the Hub. I don't like to dick around with my bike, so I use Surly or All-City dealers exclusively for receiving and building up my bike and storing my case while I'm in town. Kind of an expensive habit I've developed a taste for, but I need my bike with me on vacation now. Otherwise it's not really a vacation.

  Check with Bikeflights.com, and ship it. They have a discount deal with a shipper. I used it to ship my bike from Atlanta to Monteray Bay. They had the lowest price by far- even a direct quote from the shipper themselves. I picked up a box from a bike shop, pipe insulation, packed, taped and shipped. Much easier than flying with a bike as well.
