About us
My name is Russ Melton and I own Intown Craftsmen. Serving homeowners since 1997, we are a fully licensed, insured and owner operated company. We live and work in your neighborhood and specialize in remodeling, roofing, and maintaining pre-1960 vintage homes. We are Angie's List grade “A” where we have 104 reviews and have won the Angie's List Super Service award for the last 7 years and BBB accredited. With over 500 regular customers inside the perimeter, our full time handymen and carpenters are experts in all aspects of vintage homes. As the owner, I am the main contact and supervise every job. You deal directly with me for all your needs as we avoid having salespeople. Let us help you remodel your home and keep that vintage feel.
In order to keep costs low and provide the best service possible we only serve new customers within 20 minutes of our Decatur shop. If you live in this area, we can provide references within a mile of your home. Our long term partners for permitting projects are: On Call Electric - GA Electrical License # ER101950, Allyson Mccarthy, Architect - AIA, NCARB. We use subcontractors for plumbing.

Has anyone had their roof re-roofed with a 2nd layer of tile instead of going the route of doing the whole tear-off then re-roof? I'm getting pretty high quotes on this and wondered of anyone else's experience....? Also interested in exploring the metal roof as a eco-friendly alternative... would love to have recc/experience there too if there's anyone who can offer it..... thanks in advance! Reid

Russ M. replied:Hey Reid. I own Intown Craftsmen. Save up and remove all layers of shingles for a reroof. Most manufacturers void the full warranty on the shingles if you don't. Since most shingles have a lifetime warranty now it is important. Beware of "seconds" and discount shingles. The best brands are Atlas, Owens Corning, Certainteed, and GAF. Use an architectural shingle as opposed to a traditional 3 tab 25 year shingle. We have 90 days same as cash if it helps. I live on Harrington.

Thanks!Russ M. replied:We would be glad to price it. Be careful pressure washing natural shakes. We usually just brush them with soapy water before staining and sealing. If you pressure wash them they will streak. If they are painted or solid color stained you can pressure wash. Intowncraftsmen.com
