Greg Egan's "Diaspora" takes it to the ultimate conclusion. Charlie Stross' "Scratch Monkey" ( http://www.antipope.org/charlie/blog-static/fiction/scratch-monkey/how-not-to-sell-a-novel.html ) is about a merely enhanced human-like creature working for truly transcendant intelligences. There are some other good works out there, but I've mainly read them in magazines so not easy to find. There;s a wiki page that has a list, though I don't know most of them (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transhumanism_in_fiction). HumanityPlus (http://humanityplus.org/) is the site of a magazine decicated to the concept. Virginia Postrel (http://www.dynamist.com/) has been very active in real world transhumanist politics. I'd add "Eclipse Phase" (http://eclipsephase.com/) to SJG's "Transhuman Space", and one could consider the old White Wolf game "Aeon Trinity" to have some similar overtones.
