We had a property that had received tenant damage and hired Mr. Danny Cameron (Cameron Maintenance and Management) and his crew to come in and renovate the house with expectations of being able to move in once again making it the primary residence for our family. Mr. Cameron stated that he believed he could do everything we wanted for our budget of $25,000 and that the estimated amount of time it would take to complete the project would be 4-6 weeks. Mr. Cameron was terminated on January 24th, 2016 for failing to complete the project by the third set deadline. To date, Mr. Cameron has received a total of $18,000 in funds towards our renovation and refuses to return our unused money. Mr. Cameron also refuses to provide any paperwork showing where the funds were spend towards materials or labor costs stating that, “I truly do not have to provide anything but a bill.”
For $18,000 we have have received: Demo including removal of most drywall and flooring throughout the home, kitchen cabinets and counters removed, bathtub and vanity removed, water tank removed, one wall removed (That come to find out was a structural component to the home), windows, and a brick fireplace (That a final decision on removal had not been made on.). In addition the demolition we received the following for our $18,000: SOME drywall that was improperly installed and not completed, 12 windows that were improperly installed and not completed (Mr. Cameron also told us he could remove our kitchen windows and make one large unobstructed view window, only to come back AFTER he had removed the windows and frames to tell us that “He forgot a pane of glass that big would need to be tempered and that would be an extra $800…or we could do Plexiglass.), NO flooring, NO kitchen, NO bathroom, NO HVAC unit (though they did destroy our duct work in the attic when removing the fireplace by laying bricks on the branches and destroying it), the “leveling” he did to the floors under the house were improper and some pillars have already fallen over.
The independent inspector that we had come through said that the quality of work done through out the home was terrible. One of the most horrific findings that the inspector made was to the electrical components of the home. Wiring had screws from drywall placed through it, wiring under the home was just left on the ground and not tacked up, GFI outlets would not trip, and when the home’s electrical box was moved to its new location it was done improperly. We were advised to completely kill the power to the house because in its current condition with the wiring, the house was set to BURN DOWN to the ground. To date, Mr. Cameron still refuses to provide us with the name of the electrician he hired to come into our home to complete the electrical work… I wonder why.
At this point, it will cost us more money to complete the renovation and to repair the damage done to our home by Mr. Cameron and his crew than we have left to invest. Mr. Cameron’s stance is that he has done nothing wrong and he refuses to issue a refund of the money given to him for our renovation. We do not want another family out there to be taken advantage of and we want everyone in our area to be aware. Mr. Cameron works out of the Columbus, MS area though he lives right here locally in Sulligent, AL. He claims to do work for the City of Columbus, Crye-Leike Real Estate, and high dollar homes in the area. If you know anyone who has used Mr. Cameron in the past, please tell them to have their work checked out by a third party. Please, learn from our mistake! Don’t go with the cheapest estimate you receive, go with a well -known and reputable individual. Ask your friends, check references!!
